Pending! Welwood Murray Memorial Library
Bibliophiles and preservationists can both breathe a sigh of relief upon receiving word that Palm Springs Historic Site Preservation Board voted 5-1 to block a Certificate of Approval for an "unsympathetic remodeling" of the Welwood Murray Memorial Library. The library was built in 1940 by John Porter Clark and is significant to the community as its oldest intact civic building. Preservations are seeking a "minimum impact design" restoration that would be sensitive to the original architecture. The decision is in limbo as there is a window of ten days in which the decision can be repealed. We will keep you posted as plan evolve.
You can also visit the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation for more information. Their efforts at preserving the library, among many other buildings, is commendable!
